Background

Witnesses and Event

A private pilot was flying a Taylorcraft L-2 over New Mexico in 1947 and noticed debris. He landed and went to the site with a local rancher, where they found metallic material. At the leading edge of the object were three humanoid beings, about 1.2 metres tall, with hairless heads, large black eyes, and dressed in one-piece suits.

Military Response

A military team arrived shortly afterwards and detained the witnesses temporarily. They were released after giving assurances of silence. This suggests the site was secured rapidly.

Significance

The account comes from Eberhart's 'UFOs and Intelligence: A Timeline' (p. 139) and is cited by Clark. It describes an early crash with bodies, separate from the known Roswell events, and touches on themes of cover-up and extraterrestrial entities in ufology.
