James J. Allen observed a glowing object strike his chimney and land in his backyard in West Lumberton, NC, on August 6, 1952. A small figure emerged, responded to his inquiry, then departed in the craft.

Witness and Event
James J. Allen, a 51-year-old labourer, saw an object about 1.8 m high and 2.4 m long at 21:00, lit orange on the inside. It came from the northwest, struck the chimney of his house in West Lumberton, North Carolina, and landed in the back garden close to him.
Encounter
As he came closer, the light went out. Allen made out a figure about 75 cm tall beside it. He asked whether it was hurt. The figure climbed in, and the object took off with a whistling sound.

Small footprints were found. The story appeared in the Lumberton Robesonian on August 7, 1952. Mentioned in works by Jerome Clark and Ted Phillips. There is no Blue Book file.
Significance
An early report of a close encounter of the third kind with physical traces. Despite scepticism it has been influential in UFO research.
