Ramore, Ontario: Orange oval UFO sighted by military
On June 30, 1953, at 11:45 p.m., personnel from the US 912th Air Control Squadron at Ramore Air Station observed an orange oval object moving southeast for 20 minutes. At least 10 witnesses confirmed it was distinct from the moon before it faded north.
Background
Sighting
On June 30, 1953 at 23:45, an orange, oval object appeared in the northern sky over Ramore, Ontario. It moved slowly to the southeast and was visible for about 20 minutes. The radar site of the US 912th Air Control and Warning Squadron lies three miles west of Ramore (today CFS Ramore).
Witnesses and Sequence
The first observer was A/2c Dean McDonald, who had come out of the maintenance room to check a power failure on the search radar. He alerted two colleagues; one at first took it for the moon. McDonald became alarmed and telephoned the duty officer in the living quarters three miles southwest. There at least seven people saw the object; two confirmed that the moon was visible and that the phenomenon was separate from it.
Significance
At least 10 military witnesses in all. Reported in the NICAP archive and in Project Blue Book files. Notable: a military context during a radar failure, with a clear distinction from the moon.
