Eliot, Maine: Navy officer channels Affa, UFO sighted
US Navy Cmdr. Julius Larsen followed up on 1954 contactee correspondence, channeled messages from Affa in Eliot, Maine, and reported a UFO sighting with radar confirmation near Washington on July 5-6, 1959.
Background
Background
In July 1959, Cmdr. Julius Larsen, ONI liaison at CIA photographic intelligence in Washington, came across old records of the 1954 correspondence between Frances Swan and Rear Adm. Knowles. He travelled to Eliot, Maine to meet Knowles and interview Swan.
Automatic Writing
Larsen tried automatic writing and received a message from the entity Affa. Back in Washington on July 6, he reported to Arthur C. Lundahl, head of the Photographic Intelligence Office, and his assistant Lt. Robert S. Neasham. They encouraged him to make contact again. In a trance, Larsen put questions to Affa and noted the answers.
UFO Encounter
When Neasham asked for a personal appearance or the sighting of a spacecraft, Larsen directed him to the window. Lundahl saw nothing, but Neasham claimed to make out a craft behind clouds. He reportedly contacted radar at Washington National Airport, which reported the sector as closed.
Further Developments
Neasham invited Maj. Robert Friend of Project Blue Book, who came on July 9, heard the story, and witnessed channelled messages. Friend then wrote a memo for his superior. The episode connects military personnel with channelling and an alleged radar confirmation, which is what makes it notable for UAP research.
