Ramstein: Capt. Lowery sees shape-shifting cylinder
USAF Captain J. M. Lowery observed a thin cylindrical object with changing shapes from a small delta fighter to missile-like and dart target over Ramstein Air Base. The object flew at estimated Mach 2.7 for 5-8 seconds.
Background
Sighting
On March 26, 1962 at 13:35, USAF Captain J. M. Lowery observed from an aircraft a slender cylindrical object, one third nose and two thirds tail fins, near Ramstein Air Base at Ramstein-Miesenbach, Germany. It was moving at an estimated Mach 2.7 (about 1,800 mph).
Description
At first the object resembled a small delta-wing craft. On reaching the 3 o'clock position it looked like a Sidewinder missile. From the 3 to the 5 o'clock position the shape changed to the impression of a dart target. The whole observation lasted 5β8 seconds.
Witness and Context
Capt. J. M. Lowery, a USAF pilot, reported the sighting as a military encounter. Documented in NICAP, Project Blue Book (BBU 7840, unidentified), and other sources. There is no visual evidence, but a credible pilot account.
