Cussac: Children see beings enter sphere UFO
On August 29, 1967, two children herding cows near Cussac, France, observed four small black humanoids near a landed spherical craft. As it departed rapidly with bright light, the beings entered it headfirst, leaving sulfur smell and dried grass.
Background
Witnesses and Event
Two children, François Delpeuch (aged 13) and Anne-Marie (aged 9), were watching cows on the plateau of Cussac in the Cantal department, France. At 10:30 they saw four small black beings with large heads and pointed chins, about 1.2 metres tall, beside a silver sphere some 4.5 metres in diameter that had landed.
Observations of the Beings
The beings appeared to shine like silk and may have worn suits with no visible seams. One bent toward the ground, another held a mirror-like object. They suddenly rose into the air when the children noticed them and entered the top of the sphere head first.
Departure and Traces
The sphere climbed in a spiral, produced a whistling sound and a glaring light. One being briefly returned, picked something up, and followed. At the landing site, police found a smell of sulphur and dried grass. The children's accounts were consistent, which impressed the investigators.
Investigations and Significance
The police and Claude Poher (GEPAN/CNES) investigated the case thoroughly; it was released in the French UFO files in 2007. No rational explanation was found, and it is regarded as a credible example of a close encounter.
