Midland, PA: 42-ft grass ring and three-toed tracks
Two hunters discovered a large circular impression in grass at the base of a gully in woods near Midland, Pennsylvania, on November 3, 1973. Investigator Stan Gordon documented three-toed footprints nearby.
Background
Event
On November 3, 1973, two hunters found a striking ring 42 feet in diameter pressed into the grass in a remote wooded area near Midland, Pennsylvania during the day. The find lay at the bottom of a ravine.
Evidence and Investigation
Stan Gordon, a well-known researcher, examined the site and found a trail of three-toed prints about 250 yards away. Each print measured 11 inches long and 5 inches wide. These tracks suggested unusual, large creatures.
Sources and Significance
The observation is described in detail in Stan Gordon's paper in the 1974 MUFON symposium proceedings and in works by Jerome Clark (volume III, p. 556; volume IV, p. 614). It fits the wave of UFO and creature encounters in Pennsylvania in 1973, which points to connections between physical traces and unidentified phenomena.
