Accra, Ghana: Giant missile-shaped object over ocean
On July 27, 1987, witnesses in Accra and Volta Region observed a large silent object over the Gulf of Guinea. A Ghana Air Force pilot saw it descend then climb, with yellow light and smaller bluish lights.
Background
Sighting in Ghana
At midnight on July 27, 1987, observers in Accra and the Volta Region reported a large, apparently silent object over the Gulf of Guinea. Some reported explosive sounds in connection with it.
Observation by Pilots
A Ghana Air Force pilot observed from the ground near Accra a rocket-shaped object flying south over the sea. It showed a yellow light at the rear, like a rocket, and was at least twice the size of a Boeing 747. The object stopped descending, climbed, and gained altitude.
Additional Features
Eight smaller bluish lights formed a circular arrangement, presumably produced by the object's propulsion. The sighting took place in a clear sky, with the object emitting its own light.
Significance
The case was documented in official DIA records and is notable as a military observation of an unidentified object of exceptional size and manoeuvrability.
