North Sea: Debonair jet meets huge cylinder
A British charter jet encountered a massive cylindrical object over the North Sea off Denmark. The UFO stopped abruptly, accelerated past the plane, and was tracked by RAF radar.
Background
Incident
On February 3, 1999, the captain of a Debonair BAe 146 charter aircraft at 28,000 feet over the North Sea off Denmark observed a long cylindrical object the size of a battleship. He saw rows of square windows on the UAP before it bathed the aircraft in glaring light.
Observations and Manoeuvres
The object came to an abrupt halt, then shot past the aircraft at enormous speed. Three other aircraft in the vicinity also sighted it. RAF radar stations tracked it, and after it entered British airspace a military station in Yorkshire took over the tracking.
Witnesses and Evidence
The aircraft's captain was the principal witness; three other crews also reported sightings. Radar confirmation came from the RAF and a Civil Aviation Authority source. Mentioned in Eberhart (1999) and in IUR magazine.
Significance
A strong case with multiple visual and radar records and military involvement. It illustrates high speed and manoeuvrability close to civil aviation.
