Background

Termination of the BAASS-MUFON Contract

The agreement between BAASS and MUFON was abruptly ended in January 2010, because Robert Bigelow's accountants could not make sense of the financial reports submitted. It was not renewed. James Carrion reported damaging findings about Bigelow's Skinwalker Ranch and doubts about the true aims of the partnership. He criticised the MUFON board for secret contacts with BAASS behind his back, which led to his immediate resignation. The funding had obliged MUFON to restructure, to create paid posts, and to carry the costs of the STAR team. The sudden loss of the money brought financial paralysis, a scandal, and considerable embarrassment.

Meeting with an AFOSI Officer

At the end of January 2010, Larry Grossman, head of investigations at BAASS, met the retired colonel Barry Hennessey of AFOSI in Washington, D.C. Hennessey conceded that AFOSI had been unable to identify many of the UFO sightings at northern-tier air force bases in 1975. He suspected that files had been purged and suggested that some unusual unmanned aerial vehicles might be military projects. (Sources: Carrion 2011, Lang 2011, Collins 2020; Skinwalkers 97–98)
