The Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (AATIP) should be distinguished from the funded DIA AAWSAP contract. According to James Lacatski, AATIP was created as an unclassified nickname in Senator Harry Reid's June 24, 2009 SAP request letter and was later adopted as a label for an unclassified but unpublicized investigatory effort funded by the United States Government to study UAP. It was the $22 million funded program.
