Background

Witnesses and Sighting

Fr. Raimundo Nascimento Teixeira, a teacher at the Don Bosco College, was walking at 10:00 in the Núcleo Bandeirante area of Brasília, Federal District, Brazil. He came upon a group of people watching a strange object in the blue sky, which moved and then halted. A pupil of his had a box camera, with which Teixeira took six photographs of what he described as a flying saucer.

Aftermath and Investigation

A short time later Teixeira met the witness Israel Pinheiro, president of the New Building Company. Pinheiro took away the negatives of the three best shots in order to send them to the Brazilian navy for analysis. After some months, however, he received different prints back, without any technical report. This suggests either a lack of transparency or the absence of any explanation.

Significance

The case provides early photographic evidence of UAP in Brazil, rests on the accounts of several witnesses, and raises questions about the handling of the material by the authorities. The missing analysis has fuelled debate about official UAP investigation.
