Background

The United States Air Force is a branch of the U.S. military founded in 1947.

  • Conducted major UFO/UAP research through Project Blue Book (1947-1969), headquartered at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Ohio.
  • Project Blue Book investigated 12,618 UFO sightings, with 701 remaining unidentified.
  • Concluded that unidentified sightings posed no national security threat and were not extraterrestrial.

UAP Involvement

Following Project Blue Book's termination in 1969, the Air Force ceased formal UFO investigations.

  • Remained involved in UAP matters through subsequent government programs, including the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program (2007-2017) and the Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force (2017-2022).

Key Contributions

The Air Force continues to support UAP research.

  • Collaborates with other government agencies and NASA's UAP study team, established in 2023.
